Endeavoring to hire a general contractor is a bit like going on a first date – one that involves a lot of questions and getting-to-know-yous. In fact, you should go on first dates with several GCs before deciding who you’re going to call back up for a second (and third) date.
During these information-gathering dates, you should be upfront about what questions you have so you can gain the most insight and information from them in order to make your decision. This includes asking for referrals and portfolio information.
Contractors expect these questions and may even offer up referral contact information voluntarily. Most will also have a portfolio of selected work on their website, but you’ll want to ask for specific examples related to your project if you don’t already see any.
Likewise, you’ll want to talk with past clients who have worked with the GC on similar projects. They’ll be able to offer an honest assessment of the GC’s workmanship and customer service. If you’re unsure what questions to ask a referral, start by trying some of these.
If you would like to talk to us at Seacoast Construction, or to any of our references, please give us a call at 786-433-8740. We’re more than happy to provide referral or portfolio information.
